Cane Garden Bay is one of Tortola’s north-shore stops and a regular on charter itineraries. The white sand beach is the reason people keep coming back, and the strip behind it has Quito’s, Paradise Club, Rhymer’s, and Myett’s among others. The old rum distillery is a short walk from the dinghy dock and is a genuine walk back in time. Two things to plan around: in a north swell the bay gets rough and turns into a local surf spot, and on busy cruise ship days the beach fills up quickly. In calm conditions it is clean, easy swimming and a good place to sit for an afternoon.
Good to know
- A north swell turns this bay rough and the beach into a surf break. Check conditions before committing to an overnight.
- Check the cruise ship schedule โ the beach fills fast on ship days.
- The dinghy dock is in poor shape. Land carefully and don’t leave anything loose.
- The old rum distillery is a short walk inland from the dinghy dock and worth the trip.
