Included with every paid membership

The safety net you hope you never need.

The Virgin Islands are remote. When a life-threatening emergency happens — a heart attack, stroke, or serious injury — getting to a specialized U.S. hospital can save a life. AeroMD is the air-ambulance service that makes that possible, and every paid BoatyBall member is covered.

🚁
Where your $15 goes

Your membership pays for real things.

Not just software access. Here’s what your Solo fee funds for every paid member.

⚓

AeroMD medical evacuation coverage

The single biggest cost. Your fee funds the AeroMD partnership that covers every paid member for 12 months.

⚓

Keeping BoatyAlarm free for everyone

Membership fees underwrite the BoatyAlarm app so it stays free — even for non-members using non-BoatyBall moorings across the BVI.

⚓

Community, tools & new features

Your online planning community, ongoing improvements to the reservation system, and new features rolled out each season.

Common questions

Do I need to pay for membership just to use BoatyBall?
No. You can create a free account and use it to pay for first-come, first-serve moorings and access the BoatyAlarm app. You only need a paid membership if you want to reserve moorings in advance or get medical evacuation coverage.
Why can't Crew or Guest members reserve moorings?
Crew and Guest memberships exist so everyone on your boat has medical evacuation coverage — not so multiple people can reserve moorings. Only the Solo (captain) reserves. This keeps the reservation system simple and prevents duplicate bookings on the same boat.
How long does AeroMD coverage last?
12 months from the date you sign up. So if you join in March, you’re covered through March of the following year — protecting you on this trip and the next.
Does membership auto-renew? How do I cancel?
Yes, memberships renew annually so your coverage doesn’t lapse. To cancel an upcoming renewal, open the BoatyBall app and go to Membership → Upcoming, then tap the ✕ next to your name (or a crew member’s name). Your current 12 months of coverage stays active — the cancellation stops the next renewal.
What if my crew changes between trips?
Each Crew or Guest membership covers a specific person for 12 months. If someone new joins your next trip, add them as a new Crew member for $10. If someone in your crew won’t be sailing with you again, cancel their upcoming renewal via the Upcoming tab.
What is Advanced Reservations?
Advanced Reservations is a Solo-member upgrade that works in two stages. First, you request one of a limited number of slots up to 12 months out — as soon as you know your trip dates. Then your upgrade activates 24 hours before your trip starts, and once you’re underway you can reserve moorings up to 4 days ahead within your trip window. Availability is capped at about 10% of the total number of mooring balls in service. It’s $723 for the 7-day trip. Busy season sells out, so submit your dates as soon as you know them.
How does the request process work?
You submit the request form with your trip dates and any bay preferences. We check availability against the spots already allocated for that week and get back to you — usually within a few days. If we can accommodate you, we invoice you for the $723 and you’re in the program. Your access then activates 24 hours before your trip starts, and once you’re underway you can book moorings up to 4 days ahead within your trip window. If the week you requested is already full, we’ll let you know and can suggest alternate dates.
What does AeroMD actually cover?
Air medical evacuation from a Virgin Islands hospital to a mainland U.S. facility — only when a physician determines it’s medically necessary for a life-threatening emergency. It’s not travel insurance. For trip cancellation, illness, or non-life-threatening evacuation, look at our separate trip insurance.
What happened to Bar Hop?
We ended the Bar Hop program after the 2025-26 season. We’re focusing membership benefits on the things that deliver the most real value — medical evacuation coverage, mooring reservations, BoatyAlarm access, and community.
