Savannah Bay

Virgin Gorda's long undeveloped beach anchorage. Excellent snorkeling and swimming in calm weather, no moorings, and dangerous in any north swell.

Good to know

Savannah Bay is the White Bay of Virgin Gorda — a long stretch of sand and clear water with nothing built on it. There are no moorings, so you anchor, and the bay is fully exposed: in a north swell it turns dangerous and is not worth attempting. Later in the season, once the north swell has gone, it is one of the best anchorages on the island. It is also the site of Christmas in July, when hundreds of boats anchor and raft up for a party on the beach.

Good to know

  • Fully exposed. Avoid entirely in a north swell — conditions here turn dangerous fast.
  • No moorings. Anchoring only, so pick your spot and set well.
  • Best in the back half of the season once the north swell has settled.
  • Christmas in July fills the bay with hundreds of rafted boats. Plan for it or plan around it.
